Glossary¶
Actors¶
- TELCO
The Covage client operator who orders the products and to whom the services are delivered. In turn, TELCO has its own business or professional client, known as the end client or end customer.
- END CUSTOMER
Business or professional client of TELCO
- Covage
Wholesale operator, TELCO service provider in the frame of a business Covage-TELCO relationship, which, in order to deliver the services, may require to buy telecommunications services from a PROVIDER in the frame of a Covage-PROVIDER business relationship.
- Kosc
Former company name before Kosc and Covage Merged.
- PROVIDER
The supplying operator on which a given product relies. As for the resale, the provider is the one actually providing the product (besides traffic delivery)
Technologies¶
- xDSL
The DSL technology allows high-speed data transmission over copper-based networks. There are a number of variants of DSL technology, hence the acronym xDSL to refer to all these technologies. Namely ADSL, ADSL2+, VDSL2, SDSL.
- ADSL
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line - a technology that allows high-speed digital signal transmission over an existing phone access network. It provides high-speed downstream communication to the subscriber and a lower-speed upstream return path to the network.
- ADSL 2+
A variant of the ADSL technology providing higher transmission speeds than “standard” ADSL technology.
- VDSL2
Very high speed Digital Subscriber Line 2 - This technology is applicable to the copper lines that allow a significant increase in speed as compared to ADSL. However, due to the physical constraints inherent in this technology, the performance increase of VDSL2 is limited to the copper pairs not exceeding 1 km in length.
- SDSL
Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line
Covage products¶
- PRODUCT FAMILY
Product family that relies on the same technological family. Each product family has its own processes: the ADSL access links (unbundled or not), SDSL access links (unbundled or not), An operator has to sign some specific conditions associated to a PRODUCT FAMILY.
- PRODUCT LINE
It consists in a range of products inside a family (PRODUCT FAMILY) that share specific key features (for example, the rate). The client operator launches the eligibility process on a PRODUCT LINE (for example: SDSL-2M, SDSL-4M, …).
- PRODUCT
A product within a product line (PRODUCT LINE). The client operator orders a PRODUCT using an ORDER. A PRODUCT has several features such as the rate, the service class, and other technical characteristics that may depend on the technology.
Covage services¶
- ENDPOINT
End point of a service. An ACCESS services has one ENDPOINT. For ADSL, an ENDPOINT can be defined by a copper line number. For SDSL, an ENDPOINT can be defined by a technical address.
- DELIVERY POINT
Interface where services between Covage and TELCO are delivered. A delivery point pools the delivery of several access products.
- BANDWITH / BIT RATE
Product rate.
- CoS
Product class of service. Example: guaranteed bandwidth, non-guaranteed bandwidth.
Covage options¶
- OPTION
There are two types of options: service options and order options.
- SERVICE OPTION
A service option is an optional component of a service that can be subscribed or not; should it be subscribed, it could take one or several values, or have several features. Examples: RTG (Recovery Time Guarantee), modem, portability, unlistedNumber, 256kbits. A service option is associated with a service. It is billed based on two components: a “one-shot” component upon delivery (optional non-recurrent component) and a service recurrent one (recurrent component).
- ORDER OPTION
An order option is associated with an order and billed upon delivery (one shot, non-recurrent component)
Covage processes¶
- ELIG
Eligibility of an endpoint for a Covage product line
- ENDPOINT
Physical representation on which TELCO can launch an eligibility process. An endpoint can be defined in different ways, depending on the offer: copper line number, optical socket identifier, Covage POP reference, etc.
- ORDER
TELCO order for activation, modification or termination of a Covage product. The ORDER ENTRY stage corresponds to an ORDER in the DRAFT state (DRAFT ORDER). The ORDER PROCESSING stage is triggered by a submit command and takes to the other states of the order.
- SERVICE
An active service is created when a product activation order is successfully completed. A service can then be modified or terminated. The TELCO active base consists of all TELCO active services. The service type may be ACCESS, INFRASTRUCTURE or DELIVERY (depending on the ordered product).
- APPOINTMENT
Technical appointment between TELCO’s end customer and the infrastructure operator for the creation of a copper or fiber line, or to take support actions on that line.
